Statistical Difference Doesn't Necessarily Mean That There is a Discrimination!!


  • We use statistics as a tool to analyse the data we have
  • With the use of statistics, we can convert a set of data we have at our hand to a more meaningful or more understandable form to facilitate our decisions
  • When we analyse data of different groups, we will find that there are differences in the results between selected groups
  • Media frequently tries to manipulate these data in order to mislead the public
  • But, statistical difference does not always mean that there is a discrimination
  • For an example, is we analyse the gender in prions, % of males are significantly higher compared to the females
  • But this does not mean that prison system is discriminating against males
